Biden's State of the Union Speech

I listened to President Biden’s State of the Union Speech at the Capitol last night, and I am so proud to be an American under his leadership.

Joe Biden is a true Christian and faithful American. His entire speech was about unity, helping others, and fixing our problems. He did not spent time bragging about himself or blaming others, and he dd not make personal attacks. He repeatedly mentioned the Republicans, thanking them where they have already helped, and asking them to help in upcoming projects. This is a EXACTLY what we need in a President.

I was also proud to see, on multiple occasions, my fellow Republicans applauding his comments. This was a welcome change (on both sides) from the last ten years.

The first part of his speech was, of course, about Ukraine. This part of his speech was well-received on both sides of the aisle, which was a good thing. It’s important for the world to see that we may fight amongst ourselves, but when it comes to world crises, we are still the UNITED States of America. We will be there for our allies. You can count on us.

He talked about the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, and thanked both Republicans and Democrats for working together to get it passed. He mentioned a few of the 4,000 projects that have already been approved, and told us that all of this work would be done using American made products. For the past 30 years, every president — Democrat and Republican — has said they would address infrastructure, but never did. President Biden worked with BOTH parties to get this bill passed, and we are already seeing results. We’ll get better roads, newer bridges, universal broadband access, and so much more. And we will create more American jobs while doing it!

He mentioned upcoming infrastructure bills and how important they are and asked both parties to work together on compromises that will get these bills passed as well.

He talked about inflation, and offered some points on his plan to reduce it, including cutting the cost of prescription drugs — something that BOTH parties have also been talking about for years. NOW IS THE TIME TO GET IT DONE! See my post from last week about inflation.

He also took steps to clear up a couple of things that have been misreported in the press.

First, his new programs will not increase taxes on anybody making less than $400,000 per year. He promised this during his campaign, and he has followed through.

Second, he talked about “Funding the Police.” NOT De-funding the Police. Despite what you may have heard on Fox and other less reputable channels, Biden has NEVER advocated de-funding the police. in fact, his stimulus package that provided the $1,400 rebate checks to us back in March also provided $350 BILLION dollars to help cities mitigate the damages from the pandemic and allow them to hire more people, including more police officers.

He touched on some sensitive topics such as gun control, voting rights, immigration, LGBTQ rights, and others, and plainly laid out his position on this issues.

He talked about the Opioid Epidemic, which has hit rural Virginia particularly hard.

The one down moment during the speech was when representatives Greene and Boebert shamed themselves and their constituents by heckling the President during his speech, especially interrupting when he was talking about losing his own son to cancer. They are truly examples of what’s wrong with our country, and we can only hope they are voted out of office this coming November.

But, all in all, President Biden’s State of the Union Speech was an upbeat, positive message for a country desperately in need of good news.

We are finally starting to see the light at the end of the Covid tunnel, and Biden, like the rest of us, is eager to get our lives back to normal, or at least our new normal!
