I have done a lot of thinking over the past week, and I have come to realize that I CANNOT support President Biden’s pardoning of his son.
Let me tell you why:
While the prosecution of Hunter Biden was clearly politically motivated, the fact is that Hunter Biden COMMITTED the crimes under which he was charged.
This is the same argument I have used to support Donald Trump’s convictions in New York. His prosecution was also politically motivated. But the fact remains that Donald Trump also committed the crimes under which he was charged.
I left the Republican Party because of their hypocrisy and total abandonment of the principles and vales under which it was founded.
If we support President Biden’s pardoning of his son, we are guilty of the same hypocrisy we accuse the Republicans.
Doing the right thing is not always easy. A lot of times, it is very hard. This is one of those times.
I love President Biden. I think he has done a great job under very difficult circumstances, and will leave our country in a much better position compared to the mess Trump left. If he had not withdrawn from the race, I would have voted for him again in 2024. (I did vote for Kamala)
Our duty as citizens is to support our President. But supporting our leaders also means holding them accountable as well. The Republicans failed to hold Trump accountable for any of his actions, and look what that got us. Turning a blind eye to minor failures starts us down a slippery slope, and we cannot allow that to happen.
In the grand scheme of things, President Biden’s pardoning of his son pales in comparison to the multitude of wrongs done by Trump and other Republicans. But two wrongs don’t make a right, and I cannot continue to call out the Republicans and Trump for their failures if I am not willing to call out President Biden for his.
The bottom line is that President Biden put his love and desire to protect his son over his duty to the American people, and that was wrong. (If I was President, I cannot say I would not have done the same thing. But I would have been wrong to do it.)
P.S. Hunter Biden was to have been sentenced later this month. If the judge would have imposed a sentence that was not in line with what other offenders in the same position received, I would have supported President Biden commuting the sentence to the extent that Hunter’s punishment was in line with others in the same position.
P.P.S. To all the hypocritical Republicans out there complaining loudly about President Biden pardoning his son: Shut the hell up. Get your own glass house in order before you start throwing stones.
